The DDHS Construction II Class completed a 3 week project constructing 6 picnic tables, working in pairs. Prior to beginning the project, students were asked to predict how long the project would take, with most students believing it would take approximately 2 weeks. Students learned that they underestimated the difficulty of the project as many of them encountered problems that they didn’t expect. During the project, students learned to adapt and solve problems, including drilling holes in the legs that were too wide. Students also learned to work efficiently with their partners, having one student measuring and drawing lines, while the other person accurately made the cuts and drilled the holes. Upon completion of this project, it provided students with better constructing skills while also giving back to the community and donating some of the tables.
