Students in Mrs. Irwin's AP Biology course were able to look at the pGLO results from their bacterial transformation lab. The bacteria colonies glow green under ultraviolet light. This process is now used to separate and identify bacteria in labs all over the world instead of using harmful radiation. Students are able to use a simple procedure to transform bacteria with a gene that codes for Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP).
