Science Immersion Day at UW-Madison

On Tuesday, February 14th, four Middle School students (Owen Alter,  Aiden Bieser, Emily Hamlin, Yaziel Sanchez Manriquez) attended a Science Immersion Day at UW-Madison at the Genetics Biotechnology Center coordinated by Southern Lakes Advanced Learners Network . The students were able to attend the following sessions:  

  • BIOTECHNOLOGY: Alien Blood Electrophoresis
  • ENERGY: The Carbon Cycle & Us
  • GEOLOGY: Reading a Soil Core with Geologists
  • PHYSICS: Ingersoll Physics Museum
  • PHYSICS: Albedo and the Physics of Climate Change
  • Q&A Session and Mini-Campus Tour

This event is designed for high ability 7th and 8th grade students who love science to attend a college campus for a day.  By exposing them to college opportunities, science labs and chances to talk with professors and students, these students will have a better understanding of the courses they should take in middle school and high school to set themselves up for college STEM majors.
