Course Information:
This is a year long course that requires selection of both semesters: S1 and S2. Learn basic communication in Spanish through listening, writing, reading, and most importantly, speaking. Emphasis is on linguistic survival in the classroom. The first year course trains students in the fundamentals of Spanish. Grammar and vocabulary are presented by the teacher and are reinforced by the course textbook, listening activities, songs, and games that practice the language.
Outcomes:
Engage in basic conversation: provide and obtain information, express feelings, emotions and personal needs, and exchange opinions
Understand and interpret basic written and spoken language with a variety of topics
Present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics, demonstrating a basic level of vocabulary and grammatical structure
Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices, perspectives, and products of the Spanish-speaking cultures studied
Acquire basic information and recognize the distinctive viewpoints that are only available through the Spanish language and its cultures
Demonstrate an understanding of the nature of language through comparisons of Spanish and English

If you take this course, you must also take FL100-S2 – Spanish I S2
College Readiness: This course counts as 1 year of foreign language. (Taking two years of Spanish (ie. Spanish I & II) at DDHS equates to 2 years of foreign language preparation for college readiness.)
