Course Information:

This is a year long course that requires selection of both semesters: S1 and S2. Gateway Technical College Spanish III will acquaint students with more advanced materials in Spanish and reinforce basic communication skills. Spanish and Latin American Cultures are emphasized. This course reviews the fundamentals and extends grammatical study to include more irregular verbs, as well as the preterite and imperfect tenses, the future, and the conditional. Each unit reviews oral skills and teaches new grammar and thematic vocabulary. This is accomplished through the use of short readings, writing assignments, partner practices, videos, songs, and poetry. Spanish is the primary language used by the teacher and students.

  • Present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics, demonstrating an intermediate level of vocabulary and grammatical structures

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices, perspectives, and products of the Spanish-speaking cultures studied

  • Acquire information and recognize the distinctive viewpoints that are only available through the Spanish language and its cultures

  • Demonstrate understanding of the nature of language through comparisons of Spanish and English

  • Show evidence of becoming life-long learners by using the Spanish language both within and beyond the school setting

Prerequisites: FL200-S1 – Spanish II S1 AND FL200-S2 – Spanish II S2

Corequisites: If you take this course, you must also take FL300-S2 – Spanish III S2

College Readiness: This course counts as 1 year of foreign language. (Taking three years of Spanish (ie. Spanish I, II, & III) at DDHS equates to 3 years of foreign language preparation for college readiness.)
