Course Information:

This is a year-long course that requires selection of both semesters: S1 and S2. Audition Required Lydian Choir is a mixed chorus of the most dedicated singers who have had previous music experience. This choir tours with the Chamber Choir every four years. This class will focus on Madrigals and Vocal Jazz. This choir will require additional out of class work and in-class leadership. This choir performs both secular and sacred music. This class must be taken both semesters.

Outcomes:

  • Understand and apply note-reading concepts (i.e., note names, numbers, sol-feg) appropriate for their level of experience. Lydian Choir shall achieve 80% – 90% accuracy

  • Understand a music vocabulary and apply their meaning to the seven elements of music (Melody, Rhythm, Texture, Harmony, Expression, Form, and Timbre)

  • Understand the relationship of pitches within major and minor scales (whole and half steps) and apply that knowledge to music in any key

  • Rehearse and perform major works by master composers of various cultures and historical eras with a healthy vocal production, blend, balance, tone, intonation, and presentation

  • Analyze and critique choral music performances using proper vocal production and music elements as the standard

  • Sing in several languages and demonstrate an understanding of diction issues and proper pronunciation

  • Sing in four-part harmony with and without accompaniment while showing vocal independence by maintaining their vocal part in mixed position and in quartets with 80-90% accuracy and 85-95% accuracy for accelerated Lydian
