Course Information: The Adventure, Leadership, and Outdoor Pursuits II course is an extension of Adventure I for students with excelled interest in adventurous activities. This course is for highly motivated students who want to learn and experience learning at an intense level. Students will become efficient and effective at group problem solving and student interpersonal relationships. Students may have the opportunity to lead team-building activities with various groups throughout the Delavan-Darien School District. Students will also gain extensive knowledge and practice with bicycles, kayaks, canoes as well as equipment repair and maintenance. Due to the nature of the course and the aquatics aspects of kayaking and canoeing, students must be comfortable in the water. The course will emphasize achieving higher levels of challenge, leadership development and responsibility.
Outcomes:
Demonstrate the concepts of teamwork, trust, and communication through participating and teaching team-building and challenge course activities
Demonstrate leadership qualities in problem solving situations
Understand bicycle safety and basic repairs
Demonstrate rescue procedures for kayaking and canoeing
Display knowledge of orientation using GPS systems
Demonstrate the skills to safely perform a team relay, Australian relay, and M relay systems for rock climbing and challenge course experiences
Implement a fitness plan based on personal fitness scores
Prerequisites: PE618 – Adventure Education 1
Note: Students will be off campus for various educational experiences. Parent/Guardian permission slips will be required and minimal costs may be relevant. Students MUST be willing to challenge themselves DAILY to take this course in areas such as heights, water and endurance activities.
