The Coaching, Officiating, and Team Activities course is designed to provide cardio-vascular exercise, team and coaching strategy, sport specific skills, and an understanding of the rules and procedures for each sport covered. Students will learn the fitness concepts through competition of team exercise, weight-room, and cardio rooms. Basic skills and fundamentals will be addressed. The focus for the coaching portion will be on rules, strategies, and building a team atmosphere. Coaching demonstrations will occur throughout the class in which students will coach the rest of the class through specific drills and games they’ve created. This course will be a competitive class at most times and students will be expected to give their best effort and take their roles as player, coach, and official seriously. Activities that are included in the course include, but are not limited to: floor hockey, flag football, basketball, volleyball, mat kickball, and soccer. Additionally, this course offers students the opportunity to become WIAA certified officials in multiple sports- for free! This portion will require students to study and become familiar with rules, regulations, and procedures included in their desired sport officiant certification. Current events and hot topics as they relate to the world of sports may also be included.

Outcomes:

  • Express knowledge of the 5 fitness components (flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance, body composition, cardiovascular endurance.)

  • Know how to cooperate and work as a team and as individuals

  • Analyze how to find your target heart rate in the cardio room

  • Understand the basic concepts of weight lifting and how to create a weight lifting plan

  • Awareness of personal safety within the activities that we play in class

  • Demonstrate the ability to promote good sportsmanship as a teammate and coach

  • Understand and identify the rules of team activities and sports that students choose to be WIAA certified in.

  • Know how to warm up properly and can be able to put together a stretching routine before activities

  • Demonstrates participation in all of our activities as a class

  • Students can become WIAA certified officials with the potential to earn money in the future.
