Students in Ms. McClellan's American Sign Language 4 (ASL IV) class had a few guest speakers from the Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD) who specialize in the Outreach Program, come talk with their class. Students had a great time learning from our guests, including Julie Holma, Scott Kendziorsk, and Mary Fruit. The students were able to observe a presentation in ASL and Mary, the interpreter, aided in answering student's language questions or filled in the gaps when needed. The students learned a little about the Wisconsin School for the Deaf, statistics surrounding the Deaf community in Wisconsin, and about opportunities or careers available to them because they know ASL! They even shared about college programs, various grants, and certifications that could be earned because they have learned ASL in high school. It was an incredible experience! We look forward to hosting them back here at DDHS many more times in the future.
